Abraham Maslow became famous with his hierarchy of human needs and is
often considered the father of humanistic psychology. Maslow's parents
were Jewish immigrants from Russia when they settled in Brooklyn New
York. Later on Maslow attended a city College.
Maslow broke down basic human needs such as air, water, food and sex.
Next up the ladder for basic needs would be security and safety followed
by social and psychological needs.
At the top of the food chain of basic human needs was self
actualization. The need to become something more than you are at that
moment. Maslow felt there was more to life than just basic human needs.
Maslow seem to pave the way for modern psychology with the hierarchy of
needs theory.
