Healing and the Mind
From the introduction by Bill Moyers
Two important questions shaped healing and the mind. How do thoughts
and feelings influence health? How is healing related to the mind?
We asked doctors in large public hospitals and small community
clinics about healing and the mind in daily practice. We talked with
people in distress relation clinics and therapeutic support groups and
learned about such techniques as meditation and self regulation as well
as about regimens of diet and exercise.
We talked with scientists about mind and body research and about the
fascinating new field of psychoneuroimmunology, which brings together
psychologists, neurologists and immunologists to explore mind body
connections. We traveled to China to experience a culture whose model of
human health is so different from ours that my questions about the
connection of mind and body could not be answered from within its frame
of reference.
When the regulation of Chi or vital energy, is the object of
medicine, questions about mind and body make no sense. The journey led
us to a central question. What is health?

Born in Hugo, Oklahoma and raised in Texas bill was the son of John and
Ruby. He began his journalism career at 16 years old as a reporter at
the Marshall News Messenger.
Bill worked as an intern for Senator Lyndon Johnson and eventually was
in charge of his personal mail before his internship ended. Later on
bill would become press secretary for Lyndon Johnson.
Bill Moyers played a large role after the death of President Kennedy and
President Johnson's administration.
Bill is married to Judith and they have three children along with five
grandchildren.
Bill's career in journalism has made him one of my favorite journalists.
I don't know if he ever even sleeps because of the amount of work he
produces.
