January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the son of Reverend Martin Luther
King Sr. and Alberta.
Martin went to Morehouse College at the age of 15 never completing his
high school. He graduated with a degree in so sociology and then went on
to seminary to get a degree in theology. This led him to Boston
University to where he received a doctorate in philosophy on June 5,
1955.
Martin married Coretta Scott and had four children.
Wasn't long before Martin became the pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist
Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
He opposed the Vietnam War and led peaceful demonstrations for civil
rights.
Martin was probably the single greatest influence on civil rights in
America in the 1960s.
One of his mentors was Mohandas Gandhi,
whose peaceful demonstrations inspired him for the civil rights movement
in the United States.
Martin was assassinated while giving a speech for black public works
employees in Memphis, Tennessee that were on strike at the time. Martin
was shot while standing on the balcony and died later that evening.

| I have not read any of Martin Luther King's
books but when computers first started getting popular, Microsoft came
out with an encyclopedia that had famous speeches.
One of those speeches was the "I Have a Dream" speech. I could relate to
some of the stuff he was talking about from my own life and dealing with
personal experiences.
It to a man like Martin Luther King to end segregation in this country.
If you type the words I have a dream into youtube.com you should be
able to watch the speech on your computer.
