Mary was the youngest of six children and her father's name was Mark
Baker and her mother's name was Abigail. She suffered chronic illness as
a child and developed a strong interest in the Bible and Christian
healing.
As a young child she mentions one account of God calling on her while
she was playing with her cousin. The call was so loud that it startled
her cousin and her cousin said "your mothers calling you". Strange
accounts would continue to haunt her during her life.
When she was a teenager farmers would often bring animals to her to heal
them. There are accounts from other people in the community verifying
that this story is actually true.
She married in 1843, George Washington Glover and he died the next year.
She had one son with him George. Later on she would marry Daniel
Patterson whom promised to adopt George but never did.
Mary had problems throughout her years with poor health and suffered as
even as an adult. Having suffered enough she finally went to see
Phineas Quimby and she started to see
some benefits to his practices. Later on this would prove to be a large
influence on her life.
Soon after that Mary started writing a book called Science and Health
and soon formed the Church of Christian Science. And spent the rest of
her life working on the bylaws for the church.
She died in 1910 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
