May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993)
Norman was born in Bowersville, Ohio and went to Boston University
school of theology. He became a Methodist minister in 1922 and changed
denominations in 1932 and began a 50 year tenure as pastor of Marble
Collegiate College in Manhattan.
When Norman arrived the church membership was 600 people and when he
left it was over 5000.
Norman started a radio program in 1935 called the Art of living.
Along with James Penny the founder of JCPenney & Co., Thomas Watson
President and founder of IBM he formed the 40 Plus organization to help
unemployed managers and executives find work.
The Power of Positive Thinking was published in 1952 and stayed on the
New York Times best seller list or 186 consecutive weeks. The book has
sold over 5 million copies and is translated into other languages.
Peale was also a Scottish Rite Freemason 33°.
Dr.Ernest Holmes the founder of the
Religious Science was one of Norman's mentors.
Norman Vincent Peale was also one of
Robert Schuller's mentors.
One man's book can impact thousands of lives through other people.
He died in Pawling, New York
