Richard attended Long Beach State College and so did my
father around the same period of time. Interesting I wonder if they ever
ran into each other or knew each other.
He was in the Air Force and became a jet pilot, afterward he became a
technical writer for Douglas aircraft and a contributing editor to the
magazine Flying.
It seems a lot of his books relate to flying of some sort. The book
Jonathan Livingston Seagull became a best selling book in 1972 and that
year alone sold more than one million copies. According to Wikipedia it
broke all hardcover sales records since gone with the wind.
In 1977 he married Leslie Parrish whom he met while making the movie
Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
He has a devoted following and continues writing great books.
