Care of the Soul

A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness

This book was a New York Times bestseller and provides you with a way to add depth into your life with meaning and spirituality by nurturing your soul.

Sometimes we need to change the way we think about life, sometimes we need to express the way we feel in a different way and sometimes it's going to be up to you to make these choices. Can you make the choice to change your life with a few simple steps or maybe even a little meditation daily.

The choice is up to you to continue living in a materialistic society that requires going 100 miles an hour in all directions or slowing down to enjoy life by simplifying it.

Tom grew up in Detroit, Michigan where his father taught plumbing and his mom was a housewife. He attended a Catholic school and spent a lot of time around the priests as well as the nuns. This gave him an education he would never forget.

At the age of 13 he entered a prep seminary school in Chicago and became a Servite which was a religious order founded in Italy during the Medieval Times. In this school he spent time meditating and chanting and lived a vow of poverty by choice.

After this he studied philosophy for a couple of years and returned back home to Chicago to focus on his music but soon left the order.

He received a master's degree in theology from the University of Windsor in Canada then continuing his education at Syracuse University received a Ph.D. in religion.

From 1976 to 1992 he became involved with the Dallas Institute For Humanities and Culture.

In 1992 he published The Care of the Soul and from then on was able to pursue writing full time.

He has two children one boy and one girl.

I have read a couple of Thomas Moore's books or should I say I have listened to them on audio. He has a very impressive personality it seems as if he is giving you information for you to do with whatever you choose. He's not force feeding you or shoving anything down your throat.

In the book The Care of the Soul he provides a way to feed the soul as well as the mind with useful information. He takes a different approach than some self help or spiritual literature.

I have listened to The Art of Simplicity twice and it came to the conclusion that certain people live lives out of necessity by going to work every day and doing what they are told for what they think they need to be doing. But this isn't the case people need to simplify their lives and it can be as simple as meditating daily.

I had a hard time trying to figure out some of the stuff Thomas Moore was talking about until I came to the conclusion that he might be on a different spiritual level than myself. He seems like one of the most down to earth people I have ever listened to and I am extremely grateful that he narrates his own books, he has a very pleasant easy voice to listen to.
